it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Ill-fated romances, vampires, heists, great loves and great friends -- many of my students have no idea what awaits them inside books.
I teach in a high-poverty urban school, where many students do not have exposure to any kind of reading material on a regular basis, let alone great young adult novels.
In my English class, I try to combat that literacy gap by surrounding my students with shelves and shelves of wonderful books. Over the years, though, some well-loved novels have fallen apart or disappeared with students who couldn't let go of them.
My Project
I need to replenish my classroom library with high-interest titles that will captivate a new class of would-be readers. Matching students with the right books can truly change their lives. Avid reading leads to greater reading ability, higher grades, and college as a real option...not to mention teenagers who grow up to be curious, active, informed citizens.
Please help my students become lifelong readers by bringing these great novels to our classroom.
