My Students

My students include 7th and 8th graders whose families have chosen to attend a charter school focusing on Arts and Personalized Learning. They come from all around the southern areas of San Diego County.

I love knowing that I'm building the next generation of artists, performers, and thinkers.

I want to be able to provide them each with the environment and resources that they need to grow and thrive.

There's so many students that can be truly engaged in their learning thanks to arts integration. Some of my students are wonderfully talented at a fine art, dance, or music, and some of them are just beginning to cultivate an interest. My goal is to help each of them reach their fullest potential through constantly integrating art into their learning.

I teach History, but I am also the supervisor for our "Board Games & RPG Club" as well as "Student Council." Moreover, I teach the Comics and Board Games design elective classes.

My Project

This simple DonorsChoose.org request would allow me to provide my History class students with two new settings to learn in. First, the two sound-proof earmuffs give a pair of students in each class period the opportunity to work in near-silence. In our current room, even during 'quiet work time' it can get quite loud if only a few students are talking! These earmuffs would be especially helpful for my students with special needs.

The projector will open up an entire new world of learning for a small group each day.

I often 'flip' my lessons, utilizing recordings so that students can pause and rewatch instruction as needed. A second projector will allow a small group of students to control their own learning while utilizing a single device. Additionally, it will help ameliorate the laptop shortage in my room. Ideally, through this projector, a small group of 4 to 5 students can learn together using a single device.

My school focuses on personalized learning, and the more options I can give my students, the more faithful I am being to that principle. I know that I personally would have greatly benefitted from both of these options being available to myself when I was in middle school, so I want to provide that opportunity for my students.
