CRB Watch: Youth Taking Action

Help me give my students a GoPro to document and share their youth-led efforts to protect our coconut trees from the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle and educate the community.

My Project

Students will lead a community campaign to raise awareness about the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB), which is threatening our niu (coconut) trees—our tree of life. Through filming and storytelling, students will document CRB damage, share prevention tips, and educate others on how to identify and report the beetle. They’ll create videos, lead presentations, and share their work at school and community events.

This project serves the Waiʻanae Coast and the larger school community.

Many families are unaware of CRB damage or how to help. Students will reconnect to cultural stewardship and empower others to take action in protecting our environment and heritage.

Materials Needed:

We are requesting a GoPro to help students document and share their work. The GoPro will allow them to capture tree inspections, interviews, and planting events. These videos will raise awareness and inspire community involvement, led entirely by youth.
