This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a low income area where resources are limited and the scholars are not exposed to math outside the context of the curriculum. Due to limited resources and budget issues, the school is not to provide the necessary needed resources that our students need in order to improve their learning.
I have 25 excited and eager third grade scholars.
They love math and love to learn math using math games. I try to provide as many teacher created games as I can. However, due to the many different skills that are taught in third grade, making the games is becoming more and more challenging. My scholars attend a low income school where the population is mostly hispanic and black. In our school, 98% of our scholars receive free lunch.
My Project
I am requesting math games for a variety of skills including fractions, place values, decimals and money. With these resources, scholars will be able to practice these skills in a fun way. I will be able to teach into a small group of scholars guiding them as they play. I can observe and take notes on what they need to improve these skills. The interactive computer software will allow for whole class instruction and allow scholars to observe each other. Scholars will learn how to work with a partner or group. Scholars will learn and practice math skills. Scholars will be involve in a more student centered classroom that allow them to be more responsible for their learning.
Having these math game in my classroom will allow my students to have a more fun hands on experience in math.
When you provide scholars with a fun way of learning something, they are more open to learning it. They look forward to ending each math lesson with a math game. Having more math games in the classroom will allow my scholars to not only learn and practice math skills, but to enjoy it.
