This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember learning math concepts strictly using paper and pencil? Today's students are challenged to learn difficult concepts at a young age, but learning now goes far beyond written computation. My students need math games to aid their learning.
My students attend an inner-city elementary school of close to 600 students.
93% of the school is considered low-income. Currently, I have a class of 21 students who are 100% eager to learn. I admire their enthusiasm, and I commend them for their unyielding dedication and investment in their own learning. Even though my students are so eager to learn, computing math with just pencil and paper can be monotonous. They deserve the opportunity to gain math skills in a variety of ways, using a variety of materials.
My Project
My students need hands-on games that will enable them to gain a real world understanding of math concepts throughout the year. I also have requested teacher materials for teaching concepts such as fractions, so that I will have a variety of materials to present to my students. The requested resources and materials will allow my students to truly learn and retain math concepts taught all year round. They love learning when it involves using multiple modes of learning. The materials will allow them to solidify their skills by practicing them in different ways. My students show sincere excitement when we have new materials in the classroom, or even materials that they have used before and enjoy using again and again. Engaging materials will always keep students coming back for more- especially when learning is made fun! These materials will be incredibly beneficial in helping them to conquer many math skills.
As a new teacher, I am constantly seeking new ways to ensure that my students are receiving the education that they deserve.
While they are ready and willing to learn any way that is presented to them, I truly believe that giving students a variety of methods to learn will enhance the learning while instilling the necessary concepts. We are building success one resource at a time!
