This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am an elementary education teacher in a second-grade classroom in the Bronx, New York. My students are a diverse group of learners with a range of needs and interests. They are fun, smart, outgoing, and have a deep desire to learn. Now more than ever, these students long to be working in groups while being engaged with fun math and literacy centers!
NYC has significantly cut our school budget.
As a result, we have had to reduce the number of classrooms and increase our student rosters. I will be welcoming 33 students in the Fall! Now, we are working hard planning to combat the challenges of large class sizes.
Centers are a great way to keep students engaged and learning. I will be able to work with small groups, focusing on targeted instruction in literacy and math while other groups are having fun learning and gaining independence.
With a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card I will be able to purchase center products. For example, math games, STEM activities, phonics practice, reading skill task cards and BOOM card links for digital center work. The magnets and timers will help to manage and organize groups and transitions during center time. The centers project will keep students highly engaged and support learning while practicing important skills and fostering independence.
