My Students

My students come from a small, rural community. Our school is K-2 building where 76% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. Despite any challenges my kiddos face, each and every one of them strive to be the best second-grader they can be each day. Our district's resources are very limited to textbook purchases; therefore not much is left to be spent on technology.

Technology today is not just a machine, it is a way of life!

My students are wanting the opportunity to use technology more, not just when the computer lab is available or when one of the shared chrome-carts is available. The shared chrome-cart is shared among 10 second-grade classrooms. My students need 4 Chromebooks that can remain in the classroom all day every day so they may integrate technology into their learning across curriculum areas.

My Project

In schools, we too often expect students to use technology is specific settings. To truly see what our kids can do, we need to give them the tools to use when the time is right. Learning in a classroom can be and should be supported by technology at any time, and having access is the key to students being more creative, innovative, and successful.

Students are often held back from learning with technology simply because they don't have access to it.

For some of my students, the only technology they see is here at school or their parents' smart phone. I would like to be able to give my students this opportunity by putting Chromebooks in their hands!

My hope is that students begin to turn to technology to help answer some of their own questions each day, not just when it is their scheduled time to use it.
