My Students
I teach 40 curious third grade students. They are an excited and eager bunch of learners and explorers (especially when it comes to technology!) who come from diverse backgrounds. We are located in a school district that is mostly Title I, and my students come from all across the district with some even coming from outside of it.
Being a part of a science magnet school, my students know they are scientists (this includes computer science!).
They are actively involved in their learning and set out to conquer anything that comes their way.
My Project
Have you every had to wait in line to use the computer? This happens every day in my classroom! My school has purchased a new program, Classworks, for student use. It gives each student a learning plan, that is completely individualized. It has the potential for huge gains in math and reading, but that requires time on the program. By gaining Chromebooks, it will allowing students to consistently and regularly work on Classworks, as well as other utilizing other technology in the classroom. It is hard to give students time on great digital programs and access to technology when students have to wait for a computer!
It's 2018 - computer science is just as much a part of our daily instruction as other sciences like weather, structures of life, and force and motion.
By gaining Chromebooks we will be able to increase the devices in our classroom and cut down on wait time for access to a computer, giving students more opportunities for Classworks and other technologies that enrich existing curriculums.
