This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students come from diverse situations. Some families are migrant farmers in the area and many students speak English as their second language. We are a Title I school with many students on our free and reduced lunch program. My students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges, I strive to keep learning fun, creative, meaningful, engaging, and highly motivating.

Our school district is run on the motto "Growing and Learning Together." I work hard at bringing my classroom into the 21st Century so that students will be prepared to grow and learn for their best possible future.

In addition to homelessness and poverty, many of my students have learning challenges. I teach general education, learning handicapped, autistic, RSP, students with ADHD, and GATE students. I want my classroom to be flexible and have the needed resources for personalized learning.

My Project

My students need arts and crafts materials to make projects that correlate with their writing activities and reading units. We need oil pastels, construction paper, multicultural crayons, craft foam, sequins, glue sticks, cardstock, and glitter glue. These different art mediums will provide my students the opportunity to express themselves both artistically and academically.

Creating artistic projects that reflect their written words will help my students make connections from their writing and reading activities to their art.

They will be able to complete these writing and reading activities in different content areas, and their work will be proudly displayed in the classroom or school office for public view. In addition, students will also be able to create seasonal gifts that will ultimately serve as keepsakes for their families for years to come!
