My Project

Our students are bright, creative, and eager to learn through hands-on experiences. As a Title 1 public middle school in Hawaii, many face economic challenges, but that doesn’t stop them from embracing new learning opportunities. They thrive in environments where they can express themselves, collaborate, and connect with their cultural roots. Providing craft supplies will spark creativity, support social-emotional growth, and foster appreciation for others.

I am seeking funding for craft supplies, including beads, lei-making materials, and cardstock, to integrate hands-on projects into our classroom.

Lei-making, a Hawaiian tradition, teaches patience, craftsmanship, and cultural appreciation. Creating leis allows students to build fine motor skills, understand cultural traditions, and experience the joy of giving—a powerful way to show respect and gratitude. Beading and cardstock projects encourage creativity and reinforce lessons in math (patterns, symmetry, measurement) and social studies (cultural symbolism and history).

The Impact Beyond academics, these activities foster teamwork, patience, and perseverance. Hands-on projects provide a calming, therapeutic outlet that reduces stress and boosts focus. Creating something meaningful nurtures confidence and pride, and when students gift their handmade leis or crafts, they build empathy and strengthen community bonds.
