This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are inquisitive and wonderful. They are mostly Title I and lower socioeconomic status, but really love learning about the world around them. I have found that they love learning through projects and other activities, and most want to travel when they are older to see the places we have learned about in history class.
My Project
My students love learning. They yearn to see more, understand more, and desire to travel to these far-off places outside of their bubble. However, the travel isn’t possible due to limits far beyond my control.
Therefore, I hope to give my students the opportunity to “visit” these ancient civilizations by learning about and creating the mosaics found in Ancient Rome.
They will use these supplies to replicate and make original pieces similar to those found on the streets of Ancient Rome.
To start off this lesson, students will go on a virtual field trip to ancient ruins where we can see the uncovered mosaics. I will also show pictures from my travels and trips to museums, which show the mosaics and their beauty up close. Then, they will plan out their designs and begin assembling their mosaics.
