This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Never give up, never surrender!" As you enter the library you hear little voices chanting our motto as they work together to try to solve or improve their projects. Kids come to the library during their recess or afterschool time to solve different STEM challenges.

My students are fourth and fifth graders, 9, 10 and 11 year-olds who live in the South Bronx, one of the poorest districts in the United States.

They are smart and creative, but unfortunately lack the means to learn through hands-on experience, especially STEM related topics such as electronics, computer programing and circuitry.

My Project

Help me give my students a LittleBits Coding Kit.

Coding is a fundamental 21st-century skill.

Learning to code helps develop problem solving, computational thinking skills as well as perseverance, and creativity.

This Coding Kit will introduce programing to my students through a series of activities that are highly engaging. Since I am only asking for one kit, my students will have to work in small groups and learn other essential skills such as collaboration, communication and conflict resolution.

My goal is for my students to learn how to collaboratively develop a prototype of a physical object that includes programing and circuitry.
