My Students

My students have learning disabilities ranging from autism and attention-deficit disorder to dysgraphia, dyslexia and emotional disturbances. I love these kids and boy do they work hard. Almost without exception, they struggle on tests, written assignments and find it hard to connect with their peers.

The students I work with are the hardest workers I know and struggle daily with output and executive functioning skills.

Executive functions help you manage life tasks of all types. For example, executive functions let you organize a trip, a research project, or a paper for school. When kids struggle with output it is often due to areas of deficit in one or more of these skills or a math disability known as dyscalculia.

Dyscalculia is a difficulty in learning or comprehending arithmetic, such as difficulty in understanding numbers, learning how to manipulate numbers, performing mathematical calculations and learning facts in mathematics.

Many of us were born with these skills in tack or learned them quite easily, for my students each day they work hard to show me how much they have learned!

My Project

Students with Special Needs and learning differences will use coding and simple robotics to gain confidence and a skill set that they can use within school and at home to gain success within math and technology through an educational experience that will excite and motivate.

These children will be introduced to items such as the Sphero and Dot and Dash Robots and will be able to see the fruits of their hard work in a physical and hands-on experience.

They will work hard daily in class, earning their behavior goals in order to come to the breakout room for a coding hands-on lesson at the end of each day. Ultimately, with practice and determination, they will be able to demonstrate and teach others in the school how to code simple robots and share their knowledge with others.
