Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My ESL students are at different English language proficiency levels; each group is different in their special way. This makes my days interesting. I want my students to be fluent readers. Reading will open new worlds that will help improve them. “Oh, the place they will go!".
My students are LEP (Limited English Proficiency); they come from varies nations from around the world.
They are of different economic backgrounds. They come to us, some with no or very little English language to a culture that is unfamiliar to them. They are very respectful and are eager to learn. Many of the students are inquisitive, while others are timid due the language barriers.
We are in a Title One inner city elementary school. Our ESL students make up about 35% of the school population.
My Project
There’s nothing like having a cozy spot to read a captivating book. My ESL students are emergent and developing readers. I would like to give them a relaxing area they can improve their reading skills to build their fluency and confidence. I want my students to develop into fluent readers. The bean bags will boost comfort so the students can focus on reading. Creating a cozy spot is necessary because it will help develop a lifelong reading habits, also bean bags are one of the few furniture that are therapeutic.
The level books will be helpful to the students; they can find a book at their reading level which will build some confidence. They can find books that will not frustrate them because it might be too difficult to read and comprehend. The leveled books will be matched to the students’ instructional level.
The ink cartridges are for our class printer to print out activities to match the books they read. The activities help me assess their understanding and writing skills.
This project is important, because reading is an important function to strive in society.
This project will allow my students to become better readers and have a cozy spot to do it in. This readers’ spot will be inviting and will excite the students to explore the world. “Oh, the places they will go.” Hopefully they will become lifelong readers.
