Cozy Up With a Great Book!

My students need a rug to read on and pillows to cozy up with as they jump into a new book. They also need plenty of light to read whether its raining or shining outside!

My Students

Think about the last place you read a great book. Was it cozy? Were you able to cuddle up with your book and get lost in the story? Many of us enjoy our most favorite books in places that are comfortable to us, but our students often find themselves reading at their desks. My 28 incoming students LOVE to read but don't have that special space cozy up with a good book.

My students are curious, book loving scholars who want to learn, grow, and get lost in the world books bring to our classroom.

The 28 second grade scholars I will be teaching next year travel to me from the heart of North Minneapolis. Despite hardships and challenges that many of my students face outside the classroom, they come to school each day with a desire to learn something new and explore our world. I want my students to have the opportunity to read and explore new books independently or together in a cozy space they can call their own.

My Project

I believe that building a lifelong love of reading is one of our primary responsibilities as teachers. As teachers, we work to help our students find a text, genre, or author they love, but we also want our kids to have a space to curl up and enjoy their book of choice.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their learning when they are able to be in a space that is comfortable to them.

The rug, pillows, and lamps I selected will help create a more inviting library space. An appealing space paired with the engaging texts in our classroom library will build enthusiasm for reading and digging into a great book.
