This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from various social economic backgrounds. My students come from low income family. They come from homes where parents are in the home, trying their best to raise their children in a neighborhood that has gang related problems daily. There are students that don't have either parent and are either with a foster family or with a relative. Either way, they come to class eager to learn, which is why I wouldn't want anything more but to enhance their excitement for education through games and materials.
My Project
The resources I chose for my students are a set of specially selected read aloud books to be used to introduce or review a specific subject matter. I am also asking for individual rugs and seats. By having these new resources, I will be able to provide my students with books that are ideal for both a read aloud or independent reading. Read aloud books are important for older students as well because they will be exposed to rich vocabulary that these specific books provide. In addition, students will be exposed to a variety of themes, topics and current events. The rugs and seats offer additional seating when my students do their independent reading. Not all students find it comfortable to sit and read at their desk, however, these varied seating options give them a varied choice. It also is a great motivator to cozy up and sit anywhere they choose in the classroom.
The impact that you will have on my students is vital.
The most challenging part of teaching is motivating my students to want to learn. If I could engage them with a new selection of read alouds then I could get them to become excited about their own learning. That is the most rewarding part of teaching; seeing your students excited about their own learning.
