My Students

Our school is located in Long Island City, an area that is full of a very diverse group of young learners.

The funding from this project would reach 12 AMAZING students in my special needs 5th grade class.

They are a group of spectacular kids who need constant reinforcement and engagement in the classroom. My students thrive on discovering new materials in the classroom and I know seeing all of these books, having music to listen to and having a more comfortable place to sit, will excite them to no end.

My Project

Your donations will help to make reading more comfortable for my students. Students will have more options, a more relaxed environment, and a more comfortable place to sit while reading and participating in lessons.

Many of the students in my classroom are reading below grade level, and are often uninterested in the books available on their level as they are written for and about younger children.

With the increase in technology these days getting children to pick up a book can be a struggle for many teachers. I tried to hand pick books that would engage my students, like The Jake Drake Collection and Ghosts. Having new books they have never seen, about topics they like will hopefully entice them.

My students need a way to get comfortable as they learn. They need a way to sit and relax as they read. Our classroom does not have a carpet and the floor can be cold and become uncomfortable after a while. I have requested cushions instead of a carpet so kids have the opportunity to relocate and get cozy. Additionally the cushions are easier to clean and will hopefully last longer.

Research shows that listening to music can help relax students and allow us to focus as they write. I would like to use the Bluetooth speaker for this purpose.
