My Students
Time to cozy up and listen to a good book! My students will be thrilled to have portable listening centers and new books to choose from. One of the greatest things we can do for students is read to them. By providing great literature on CD, we will encourage my students to LOVE reading!
My students are a very diverse group of children in both ethnicity and socioeconomic background.
My students are hard working, kind, and eager to learn. This year I am teaching a 1st grade - 2nd grade combination class. This project will allow my students the freedom to find a cozy spot, settle in, and read/listen to literature that is self selected. Listening to stories read aloud have a direct impact on a child's literacy potential. It is my goal to engage my students, encourage and support their literacy skills, while fostering a love of reading. By giving my students a strong foundation in reading, I am empowering them to explore the world of literature and beyond.
My Project
Many of my students come from a dual language back ground, English being their second language. Listening to audio books will give my students more opportunities to hear stories read to them in English, with expression, natural cadence, and fluency. Listening to a book on CD while tracking the words in a book is a powerful literacy skill. Listening to audio books will also give my students more opportunity to practice literacy skills including story retelling, comprehension skills, and formulating thoughtful questions regarding the text.
This school is the heart of the neighborhood community and holds a very special place in my own heart.
As a child, I was a student at this same school and now I am fortunate to be giving back to the community as an educator. It is important that my students know that I am invested in their education and their future. Please help support my students' literacy with a donation to our project.
