Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I would like my classroom to be an extension of home for my students. I would like it to be a place where children and parents feel welcome. A place where my Pre-K kids feel safe and secure while learning and not in the arms of their loved ones.

Your generous donation will go towards an easy to clean play mat and social emotional learning companion that will help create a cozy and healthy environment that feels like home for my students.

The mat will be placed in the reading area along with two bean bag chairs to create a clean cozy classroom area. This wipeable mat will help prevent the spread of germs and provide enough space for children to sprawl out on the floor while reading with their friends or sitting together with an adult to read a favorite story.

Your donation will also go towards a soft stuffed social emotional learning toy otter and corresponding book. This will be placed in the cozy library area to help calm any anxiousness children may feel while being away from their family in the beginning of the school year. The toy Otter's story reminds little ones that we are always connected to the ones we love, no matter how far apart we are. Teachers will read the book to students and encourage them to hold the toy otter when feeling separation anxiety. This will provide security and stability for kids during uncertain times. The book was created by a therapist and educator, who uses therapeutic techniques to help children master social emotional skills. Creating safe, warm and comfortable classroom spaces are essential to meeting the needs of each of my students, with your help I will be able to do just that!
