Cozy Reading

My students need a cozy, kid-size couch and reading nook for curling up and enjoying a great book!

My Students

Do you have a special place that you enjoy reading? Is it soft, warm and inviting? That is what I visualize for my students. I would love to offer them a place where they can really stretch out and develop a love for books.

My students are 5 & 6 years old.

They are diverse in their ethnic and racial makeups. Some of them are learning English as their second language. The girls are in love with Justin Bieber, Hello Kitty and princesses. The boys are obsessed with Spider Man, volcanoes, dinosaurs and monster trucks. They express a lot of enthusiasm and energy while they are at school. They are friendly, hard working and generally eager to please the adults in their lives. Due to the high level of poverty at my school, 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch everyday.

My Project

The kiddie couch and cozy retreat would be such a welcome addition to my classroom. Currently there is not a designated area for students to curl up and enjoy a great book. Instead, students take their book boxes to the tables or rug to read. What an improvement this would make to the classroom environment! I believe that reading is the most important academic skill for students to succeed. Without it, students are on a path to academic failure. Your donation will make it possible for my students to apply what they are learning about phonics and decoding in a relaxing place where they can further develop these skills.

The couch and cozy retreat that I am requesting are durable enough to provide comfort to many students for many years.
