This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.
I teach at a Title I school in New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
These three benches would create a cozy, reading nook in the corner of my classroom near the bookshelves where the students go to get books to read. These three benches would motivate my students to read for years to come because students love a new, nice place to read.
Many of my students have never been to a public library, so these seats would give my classroom the feeling of being in a public library because they usually have a variety of comfortable seating.
The setting is very important because when students feel invited to read, they will read. These soft benches would create that inviting, library space that all students should experience.
