This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a "techie" and my goal is to make my students technology masterminds! Coming into a tech classroom in a low-income school means most of the students do not have the technology at home but are enthusiastic to learn about it in class.
I teach reading and language arts to two groups of energetic and enthusiastic third-grade students.
We are a title 1 school meaning most of our students are low income and their first language is a language other than English. I also teach ESL students (English as a Second Language). The students will learn English in my class. Many of my students come in below level, and it is our goal to bridge the gap.
My Project
My students need a designated reading nook with a cozy rug, reading bench, and two bookshelves. This would create an environment that would encourage them to read! This project consists mainly of encouraging reluctant readers to step outside their comfort zone and read in an environment that is pleasing. My goal is to ensure all readers become avid readers.
The cozy reading corner will allow students to read collaboratively in an area designated to encourage reading.
Some of our students need a cozy and quiet spot to get them reading. This would do the trick. My goal is to have all students find the love of reading by choosing a corner in the reading nook. This project with bookcases, bench, and rug would allow me to have a reading nook that would make it happen.
More than half of students from low‑income households
