This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom library is a mess! We need help organizing the books in our classroom library. We have books in bins, but have a hard time finding our favorite books and sitting on the hard floor to read is uncomfortable.

My kindergarten students are eager and energetic learners.

They attend a Title I school located in a densely populated neighborhood which deals with gang and drug problems. Most of my students come from low-income families and confront a variety of hardships. Many are not read to at home. Some of their parents can not read or write, even in their native language.

My Project

I will use book display units to place favorite books and theme books so that the children will be able to see the book covers easily. Comfy chairs will make the library area inviting and exciting. While they are seated on their comfy chair, they will glance over at the book display to see what book they will read next. My students will be motivated to sit and read a book.

A cozy place to sit will inspire them to spend more time reading. When they go home, they will want to curl up to read a book on their living room couch. They will set an example for their family.
