My Students
My students are an energetic bundle of joy. I teach in an inner-city school where one hundred percent of my students qualify for free lunch. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. One student lives with her grandparents because both of her parents are incarcerated. Another student lives with her grandparents because her home was a loss to fire. Another student lives with foster parents. During a home visit I discovered that a parent did not have a stove nor a refrigerator, thus I had to find resources to assist the family.
School is a safe haven where the children are loved and supported.
They need additional resources to make them feel appreciated and become successful in life.
My Project
A preschool library corner is a distinct area of the classroom with a variety of board books, picture books, early readers and comfortable seating. A preschool library corner promotes critical thinking skills and enhances creative and social development.
Excellent reading habits begin in the early years.
Introducing children to literature in preschool supports kindergarten readiness, promotes early literacy and supports a love of language and reading.
It is a joy to experience students going to the reading corner to read books alone, to a baby doll, or friends. This corner is an extension of their dramatic play area, as they frequently dress up and take their "family" to the Library.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
