Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are caring, hard-working, and motivated young learners. Most of them come from low-income families that were hit hard by the pandemic. Our staff and administration work tirelessly to give our students everything they need to be successful, both personally and academically but that is a difficult task especially now that resources and finances are increasingly strained.
My Project
Alternative Seating has been show to improve student attention, engagement, and overall happiness in classrooms. This is especially true for students who struggle with attention and behavior disorders, sensory issues, and other learning differences. Alternative seating, like benches, floor cushions, arm chairs, and beanbag chairs also provide students will more autonomy and control over their learning and classroom environment. It fosters a sense of ownership among the entire class - the classroom no longer belongs solely to the teacher. It is "ours." I would love to be able to provide more alternative spaces and seating for my kids but the costs are prohibitive.
