This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first-year teacher in the Rio Grande Valley, I’m learning that a classroom is more than just desks and walls—it’s a safe space where students can feel supported, calm, and inspired to learn. My 5th graders, many of whom come from hardworking bilingual families, show up every day with determination and heart, and I want to give them a classroom that reflects how much they matter.

To help build this environment, I’m requesting a few key supplies:

LED lights and a cozy lamp create softer lighting that reduces stress and helps students feel at ease.

Washi tape, cardstock, and ink for colorful, creative projects that make learning more interactive and culturally relevant, especially for bilingual learners.

Storage bins to keep our space organized, so students can focus more on learning and less on clutter.

Little mochi fidget tools to support students with sensory needs or those who benefit from small, quiet ways to refocus.

These items may seem simple, but they will make a big difference in how my students experience school each day. A welcoming, well-stocked classroom helps them feel like they belong—and when students feel that, they thrive.
