This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 11th grade English students are bright, curious, and thrive on collaboration. They love working with their peers and truly come alive during discussions and group activities. I want to create a classroom space that reflects their energy—a space that’s flexible, comfortable, and welcoming.

I’m requesting bean bag chairs, floor pillows, a fuzzy rug, and a phone charging station to support a more student-friendly environment.

When I borrowed floor cushions during a literature circle unit, my students immediately gravitated toward them. They were more engaged, focused, and willing to dive into deeper conversations. Flexible seating gives them the freedom to choose where and how they work best, which increases both comfort and academic motivation.

The phone charging station helps minimize distractions by giving students a designated spot to store and charge their phones during work time. This simple solution keeps their attention on class activities and reduces the temptation to use devices in secret.
