My Project
When I began setting up my classroom in September, I noticed that my Cozy Corner area had room for improvement. When working with 3- and 4-year-olds, it is imperative that they have a space where they can sort out their feelings and emotions in private. Cozy corners give students the ability to self-soothe and take a private moment to gather their thoughts and feelings.
According to an article that I previously read, "Cozy Corners let children know that there is a place for them to go to find calm moments in the midst of the busy classroom environment." With this in mind, I always allow my students to take these kinds of breaks.
The reason being it encourages them to develop the necessary social-emotional skills needed. For instance, the development of self-awareness, acknowledgment of feelings, and self-soothing skills.
With these new editions of the Teepee Tents in our cozy corner area my students will be able to privately manage their feelings. In the end, they will become more independent when it pertains to managing their feelings and balancing their own needs.
