Help me give my students flexible seating to calm themselves down and regroup to complete their art work. Making sure students feel safe and comfortable with the bean bags, rugs and calming lights of LEDs is essential!
A calm down/cozy corner is a designated space in my art classroom with the sole intent of being a safe space for a child to go to when they feel their emotions are running too high and they need to regain their emotional and physical control. This especially holds true for my ENL and SWD art students.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.
During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them.
Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards or sketch pads, or sitting or laying on the floor with a sketchpads. Making sure students are comfortable with this beanbag, rug, lights, and lap desk is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.
