This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year, I am excited to be teaching in a charter school in Central Harlem! This school specializes in inquiry-based learning in hopes to encourage students to be internationally-minded citizens of the world. Although I have not met my students for this school year yet (school begins in 12 days),
I believe that every student deserves to learn in an environment that is inviting both physically and emotionally.
Many kindergartners begin the school year shy and many times afraid of the separation from their parents. Not only that, but kindergarten is almost always the first school experience these children will have. My goal is to help make that transition less scary, through a cozy and comfortable space in the classroom.
My Project
My classroom has something that I had not had in my previous years of teaching; SPACE, and lots of it!
My hope is to fill the space that in my classroom with child friendly furniture, especially in the reading nook area.
There are other areas such as the writing center area, the art shelves and the choice time area that could also use some items to cater more towards their independence to grab and place materials on their own.
