This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come (mostly) from low income families. They have challenges that children should never have to face. I want to make our room as comfortable and cozy as possible, to encourage them to feel safe and want to practice reading. These bean bags would really add to our classroom environment.
I teach in a public school that is very high in poverty.
Many of our students are English language learners. Those that aren't face other challenges, coming from families without resources that the children need to thrive. School is their safe haven. It's a place for them to be comfortable, safe, and secure. I do all I can to make this happen for them and to provide them with a positive and fun learning experience.
My Project
I'm looking for some beanbags to simply provide a comfortable place for my students to read. Research has proved that simply reading makes better readers, and children will want to read more if they have comfortable places to do so. Currently we have hard plastic chairs and a rug on the floor. The rug is nice, but having these beanbags would be a great addition. We have found some old pillows to use in our room, but they're not very high quality and the stuffing is coming out. These new, high quality beanbags would last a long time and provide many hours of comfort for my students to read in.
