Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All students are special and deserving of a good education!
The group of students that I am teaching is eager to learn new things in the classroom.
They struggle every day trying to overcome basic needs. They live in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the city. They are funny, sweet and hopeful. These students are unfortunately at-risk to high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness and poor nutrition, patiently waiting for them outside of the school gates.
My students come from many countries, so they are also learning the English language and customs of this wonderful country. The opportunity to participate in free after-school sport activities is invaluable.
My Project
Students need the opportunity to enjoy themselves in an inviting and comfortable learning environment as they converse, complete lessons or enjoy reading their favorite books. Although we have many tables and chairs, students often end up utilizing the weirdest uncomfortable spaces in the classroom.
This project would significantly give my students the essential items for an amazing and alluring classroom library.
The addition of the bookcase with color coded reading level baskets, and comfortable bean bags on a gorgeous carpet would give my students a much needed boost to practice and enhancing their reading and language acquisition. These bean bags will provide the perfect seating option and they will be able to remain focused on their work and conversations as they sit comfortably.
