Our scholars are a diverse, vivacious bunch. They come from various neighborhoods throughout San Francisco to learn in our small school community. Ninety-nine percent of our scholars are students of color, and nearly seventy-five percent of them are English Language Learners. All of them are amazing.
Almost all of our students come to us reading below grade level, but they make huge strides each year---some of them four or five grade levels---through their hard work, dedication, and high standards.
My Project
The last few years have been really stressful for all of us, but especially for young people. This project will help create a space in my classroom for students to take a break, make a cup of tea or coffee, and breathe.
Mindfulness and self care are so important to prioritize, yet so often ignored in schools.
You can help change that for my seniors by gifting them the supplies needed to take short, intentional breaks.
In my English class, I am working towards creating more of a cozy, coffee shop feeling that is welcoming and calming for students and this project makes it possible.
More than half of students from low‑income households
