My Project

Have you ever wished you could just sit in a corner and take a few deep breaths during the day? Having a safe and comfortable place to unwind is important. This is especially true for young children. Children are learning to control their big emotions and learn about the world around them. Sometimes, this can get very overwhelming. I am adding a soft cozy area to my classroom to promote a safe place for emotional regulation.

A soft couch provides a safe place for children to escape the hardness of the classroom.

This couch will be a single person center and will have sensory materials close by. I intend to teach the children to use this center when they become overwhelmed, sad, or angry. It is soft and large and will provide them with a place to just unwind and relax.

I have a self-contained classroom of 10 children ages 3 to 4 with varying disabilities. One of our main focuses is social-emotional learning and regulation of our bodies when we get overwhelmed or big emotions. This project will help assure that my students are given the chance to have a safe and soft area to unwind.
