Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

While many of my students like books and are very interested in "reading" and letters, they need a comfy spot to settle down and get fully into a book!

This classroom is a preschool and intensive early intervention program for students with disabilities.

This special education class serves kids with moderate to severe disabilities. Most of my students have diagnosis of Autism but may also have developmental delays, speech and language impairments, down syndrome, or intellectual disabilities. Many of the students are English Language Learners. Our school is in an area of extreme poverty in Southern California and all of the students in this class qualify for the free-lunch program. Our class is in a school that is identified at a Title I school.

My Project

This comfy couch will go into our classroom library. As the students are learning to handle and look through books appropriately, they would have a nice place to sit down that isn't the floor! Every student spends part of their day in our classroom library and adding this couch to it will make it a comfy spot for years to come.

While my students struggle with a lot of social and language skills, many have a real strength in exploring and looking at books.

Each has their favorite. The library is an area of the classroom that some students have the potential to show their major strengths and I want it to be seen as important of an area as it is!
