This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach an incredible group of hardworking students at a public charter school in urban Los Angeles. As the literacy specialist, the majority of my students struggle to read at grade level despite their hard work and love for learning. As a Title I school, nearly every single student comes from a low-income socioeconomic background, making school an especially important resource. In addition, many students are bilingual and are working to learn English as a second language.
Despite these challenges, my amazing students are determined to overcome any circumstances that might get in the way of their academic success and work hard to achieve grade-level reading.
Your support for our classroom projects makes a vital positive difference in the lives of these students!
My Project
As the literacy specialist, there is nothing brings me more joy than watching students become lifelong readers who love books. Research shows that the more time students spend reading for enjoyment, the better their achievement in reading and in all academic subjects.
I hope to provide a cozy, inviting, and organized library in my room where students can grow into readers and find this lifetime love of reading.
This space will present the books in baskets organized by series, genre, and topic, inviting students to choose books that interest them. The rug and decorations will help students feel comfortable and relaxed in the space as they read. Your support will make this cozy library a reality for my students!
