Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a school where over 70% of the students receive free or reduced lunch and more than 25% of our students are English Language Learners. There are many nationalities and cultures represented, with each student having their own unique personality.
While my classroom population is diverse, the students have something in common: They are very enthusiastic learners thirsty for knowledge, but most do not have access to the internet or even books at home.
They are motivated to learn, but just need a variety of resources to help them succeed.
My Project
I would like to build a strong classroom community through a library that encourages reading in a comfortable environment. Flex-Space seating would be enticing for the kids and would be used as a reward system.
A “Reading Corner” would be beneficial in my classroom to use as free space, earned through positive behavior.
New books on a variety of subjects and genres would give the students exciting choices and make their reading more interesting. Statistics show that if a child is interested in a book, they are more likely to read it. With all these choices, there is something for everyone!
