Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These cushions, bean bags and rug will be used in my English class to create a nice comfortable area for independent reading. Part of my goal as an English teacher is to instill in my students a love of literature, and I want them to have a space to relax as they read self-selected texts. This will help them form a positive association with reading and will hopefully encourage the idea of reading for pleasure.
In addition to serving as a reading space for English class, this seating area will be utilized for social emotional lessons and discussions during advisory class.
These lessons involve circle discussions that are intended to build a sense of community and trust withing the classroom. The informal seating arrangement should help create a feeling of security and familiarity so that they are more comfortable with sharing their thoughts and feelings about various topics of discussion, such as bullying, relationships, communication skills, academic and career ambitions, etc.
