COVID-19 Care Packages for Learning! 2

Help me give my students care package items for at-home learning such as snacks, school supplies, books about financial topics, and money manipulatives to reinforce math concepts.

My Students

Within my school, almost 90% of students live in poverty. While the school has initiatives that provide students with free breakfast, lunch, snacks, and weekend food bags, many students are unable to come to school with supplies and spend time in classrooms that are not fully equipped with necessary materials.

My fourth graders are resilient individuals who face many challenges when they leave school; although there are a variety of trials in the world, our classroom is a place of solace and success.

Fourth grade is a time where students have deep, clear feelings about school and the world around them - and they let those feelings be known! They are learners who dive into rigorous academic content and require a comfortable, predictable learning environment.

Every student deserves a quality education, and my fourth graders are no exception. They are kind, capable learners who amaze me by what they accomplish daily and throughout the school year.

My students deserve a classroom environment equipped with adequate materials that help them receive a quality education.

My Project

Due to a number of barriers, many of my students are simply unable to access the online assignments created for them. I want to make sure that students have a number of ways to stay engaged and learning at home.

With these items for care packages, each student will receive materials straight to their doorstep to help remove some barriers created by at-home learning.

One way teachers in my district are reaching students is through online read-alouds posted to Google Classroom and the district website (students can access this by phone, tablet, or laptop). Now that my students will have their own fractions and decimals workbook, I'm requesting some awesome read-aloud books that center on the ins and outs of money, financial lessons, and how money applies to everyday life. With these books, I can record lessons where I not only read the stories, but also create tasks my students can use to extend the concepts in the books. After these read-aloud lessons, I will be distributing these books to students directly for them to enjoy and keep themselves. The Crayola markers, mechanical pencils, sharpeners, and blank journals are basics my students will use to continue learning. Fan favorite snacks - apple sauce, Gatorade, chips, and fruit snacks will help my students stay focused during their reading and financial literacy lessons. While completing these lessons, I will help my struggling students engage using the play money currency sets; I will use a set during my video lessons to model, and they will receive their own to support their learning!

I am so excited to see the financial literacy my students gain from these books and lessons. Thank you in advance for helping to support my students during this extremely challenging time!
