Courtyard Gardening

Help me give my students garden planter boxes in order to transform our outdoor courtyard into an outdoor classroom. Students will be fully immersed in an environment that can deeper their understanding of our science curriculum.

My Project

Our school is focused on getting our students into the outdoors. Research shows that outdoor learning spaces significantly improve students' mental health, focus, and academic engagement.

I’m seeking support to create an outdoor classroom space with planter boxes that will be planted with plants and vegetables that promote a healthy lifestyle, but also give them the knowledge on how to grow on their own.

These planter boxes will also help teach our science curriculum in an engaging way, but also improve memory. This transformed courtyard will connect students to nature and help them understand the importance of protecting our environment. This space will provide opportunities for hands-on learning, direct observation, and making concepts more relatable and memorable.

As mentioned being outside reduces stress and anxiety, boosts mood, and enhances creativity—critical benefits for growing minds. The natural environment can be less stimulating than a typical classroom, which can lead to better attention spans and reduced restlessness. We want to prove a space where students can collaborative and interact with peers in a more relaxed environment. This outdoor learning environment will promote teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
