My Students

My students are from the inner city of Washington, D.C.! The school has more than 80% of its students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. We are a school that strives to serve low-income families to the fullest extent.

Every day that my students walk into the room, we are reminded to leave our worries at the door and get ready to learn.

We love to dance and sing. We love listening to characters take on new adventures and we love making connections to the world around us!

My Project

I am a teacher that is new to teaching Kindergarten this year. These math items will give my students the opportunity to use objects that will allow them to count while using strategies like addition and subtraction. My students can solve problems and check their answers easily with concrete objects. I also included fun counting, addition and subtraction games that students can work together to play. When they finish their class work, they work collaboratively to practice essential skills to build their fluency. Using games makes the independent activity fun and kids don’t even realize that they are still working hard!
