Counting, Letters and Exploring: The Basics of Preschool!

My Students

Our program serves children who are identified as at risk and children with identified disabilities or delays. My classroom currently is a mixture of children who are 3 and 4 years old. I have a very diverse group of students in my room—socioeconomically, ethnically, and linguistically—as well as multiple ability levels.

For most of my students, this is the first time they are away from home for an extended time each day.

I pride myself in creating a safe and comfortable environment for my little ones to grow and bloom.

I believe very strongly that play is the way the children in my classroom learn best. I also strongly believe that early intervention is the key to success for the children in my classroom. We spend the vast majority of our day exploring and playing. Of my 15 students, 11 are expected to move on to kindergarten in the fall.

My Project

My students love exploring! They explore everything!! Especially the stuff in my room they're not supposed to get into like my book shelf. I love setting up activities for them to explore on their own. They recently have been using our block center to explore ramps and how balls and cars roll down them. I found the ramp set that is included in this project request and I know they will enjoy working with it.

Also, Number Sense is one of those skills that we are constantly working on.

I have some students who are still struggling with that concept. I have been making games and working on activities to help my little ones grasp the concept and I feel that they are making progress. I think that having some colorful games that will grab their attention might help them along on that development. I know when I sit with them to play a new game they are all clamoring to be the ones to work with me!
