My Project
When setting up the counting collection task- students are given a bag of items just for them (or them and a partner). They start with an estimate, from there, it is up to them how to organize, count and record how many items they have. Building not only cardinatly, one to one correlation, number sequence and organization- students get the space to count in a process that they choose. Moving from counting by 1s, to 10s, to larger groups- building their efficency!
Access to these materials will provide this experience to the several grade levels I serve.
My goal for this is to build the counting colletions into a rountine for my classroom and to integrate the other learning goals we are focused on. How can we make groups to help us identify tens and ones? How can we use multplication to get our total quicker? If we organize by color and size, is it the most efficent? These are just some of the questions that can be a jumpstart to an enriching math conversation.
