Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I love my class; clear-eyed or bleary-eyed, energetic, or exhausted - I am always happy to see my students.
These TK/K students are full of wonder and joy, and boundless energy.
The majority of them are English Learners; the children of hardworking immigrant parents desperate to give their children a chance at a life better than their own. My students have never before been in a formal academic setting, let alone had to process complex ideas in a language they don't fully understand. Their eager contributions, delivered in a charming confusion of Spanish and English, convey their earnest desire to learn.
Ours is an inner-city school full of students with high potential, and dedicated teachers working day in and day out to help our scholars be college and career ready.
My Project
My students need counters to fluently understand complex mathematical concepts. Your donations will help put vital tools into the hands of students of the highest need.
These materials will provide my students with the equipment they need to build competency in patterning, cardinality, 1-to-1 correspondence, and addition and subtraction.
Calculus, Physics, Engineering - your ability to understand multiplication tables - are all bolstered by a solid understanding of primary math standards. These counters will help students concretely model abstract mathematics, and pave the way for their future learning.
Having multiple sets of colorful counters will make accessing math standards engaging, and facilitate differentiated small-group learning structures.
