Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Transitional Kindergarteners are curious, hands-on learners. They need repetition and lots of practice to understand and master foundational skills like measurement and counting.

Your donation to this project will give students the opportunity to read counting books, count objects, and use a variety of tools to measure objects in the environment.

After reading the books "Counting Collections:Counting Cars" and "Race Car Count" students will practice counting their own collection of cars--the cars from this project list. The vehicle storage garage will add an additional challenge to their counts because they will need to add up different quantities of cars that are parked on each level of the garage.

After reading, "Roll Over!:A Counting Song" and "How many Feet in the Bed", studnets will use the action figures in this project to re create their own counting song, and to skip count using the hands and feet of the characters to determine how many feet in the doll house.

After reading the story "Each Orange has Eight Slices" and displaying the butterfly sun-catchers in the windows, students will work together to determine how many butterflies we have in all if each window holds 2, 3, or 4 butterflies.

After reading "How to Count to One" students will carefully count out the marbles and eggs in the counting collections, and then they will use the streamers to measure the length of their collection. They can also use that same streamer to determine how many cars long their marble or egg collection is or how many students long the equivalent is.

The additional books in the project will support the studnets understanding of counting strategies, their ideas of things--such as characters--that can be counted, and their motivation to look for creative ways to practice counting in their every day life.
