Counselors Communicate

My Students

On March 2, 2012, my school was hit by not one but two tornadoes. I was relieved to see that my office and my supplies were saved. However after 5 inches of snow and inches of rain my office was water-logged. All my materials for lesson, bulletin board, and parent contact were completely gone.

My students live in rural southern Indiana.

Our school educates students grades 7 through 12. For some school is the only consistent, stable environment they know. Students know that I will be in contact with them and their parents about upcoming events, referrals or grades. For some students I am the only person they have to communicate with about their lives.

My Project

Allowing the students to be able to participate in lessons to share their feelings will be important in the aftermath of the tornadoes. My students will be able to express their feeling and share their experiences. Also having supplies to contact parents will be vital in keeping the lines of communication open.

Communication is the key to counselors.

In order to stay in contact with parents, students, and the community I need supplies since everything in my office was destroyed I have to start new. Being able to get into classrooms and do lessons will be important in the aftermath of the tornadoes.
