Counselor's Calming Corner

Help me give my students just a few items that will make a remarkable impact on their mental health. I want to provide them with a space that is a calming atmosphere.

My Project

Our students are hard working adolescents who care about their future, grades, etc. As a counselor, I'm faced with kids who are sometimes overwhelmed and need to step away from class for a moment. Whether it be because they just had a panic attack in class, got angry because of something said, or are trying to muster up the courage to talk to a teacher or fellow student about a disagreement. Providing a safe place for students to be able to go to and calm down is something that is very important to me. I want to provide them with a space that is a calming atmosphere where they can take the much needed time when situations mentioned above arise. I currently have an outer office with a comfortable sofa for them to sit on, but I would love to add some things to add to the calmness/atmosphere of the room. The wall mural would be very refreshing as there are no windows located in the office and this would give the appearance of nature. The LED fish lamp is very calming to our sensory needs. I've one of these in my old office and every time someone visited my office they commented on how calming the tank was. The round table would be used for decorations/plants- which are calming in and of themselves. And finally the white noise machine would be amazing to be playing in the background especially when I have students come in that need to focus/calm down but that have difficulty with complete silence. These things would also add to the aesthetics of my office which would in turn provide calming vibes to all visitors no matter the reason!
