This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Integrating arts and crafts is an impactful way to support students' socials skills, emotive connections, and creative expression. Crafting offers students an opportunity for self expression, develops fine motor skills and reduces stress.

Art and crafts opens up a nonverbal form of communication for those students who have a hard time communicating their thoughts and feelings.

Crafting also allows for students to concentrate and focus on the present and is known to distract from everyday pressures and challenges. Many studies even suggest that drawing while talking about traumatic experiences or distressing events helps reduce children's feelings of anxiety, anger, and fear.

Having a space and the materials for students can creatively process and express what they are going through is powerful and especially helpful for students who are still in the process of learning how they feel and how they react.

I am requesting art and craft supplies for my students such as card stock, craft paper punchers, poster packs, and scratch bookmarks to allow them to practice skills such as focusing, organization, patience, and problem-solving. The glue will be used to create slime to meet student sensory needs, and the bottles, glitter, and water beads will be used to make calm down bottles.
