My Students

The counseling office is a bustling place that needs to feel safe, comfortable, and welcoming. Students come through my office to learn how to advocate for themselves and become role models for our school and community. They work in here one-on-one, with parents, or as small groups.

Our school serves a high-poverty community, and these kids deserve the best.

Many of our students are up against incredible odds, and it's our job to make sure they have the skills they need to succeed now and in the future. Our school focuses on positive behavior, and our students reflect the staff's high expectations. We expect the best and we get it!

My Project

Our students will use these materials every day. I've noticed that kids tend to feel safer and more comfortable talking about hard situations when they are in a welcoming environment. The bean bag chairs will provide awesome seating for all sizes of students, including our new Pre-K! The craft supplies and blocks will be used to facilitate discussions when kids prefer not to make eye contact, and will also be used during small group interventions. These tools will help our students grow emotionally and help them evolve into more mature learners. Educational incentives such as books will serve as useful rewards for positive behavior changes in students who have a hard time during the school day.

These donations will do a wonder for my counseling office!

The items I requested are ones that I've noticed I wish I had while working with students so far this year. As a new counselor, I am figuring out how to create a welcoming, intellectually stimulating environment outside of the classroom. With these donations, I can reinforce what teachers are working on and help students grow into the community leaders I know they can become.
