This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many students face unexpected personal challenges that can cause significant distress and shame. They often turn to a trusted adult, like a school counselor, for support during their most vulnerable moments. My vision is to provide a discrete and readily available resource that meets some of their most basic needs, allowing them to reclaim their dignity and focus on their day.
I would like to create a small, accessible supply of essential items.
For teenagers, who are acutely aware of their personal appearance, an unexpected need can feel like a major crisis. Providing something as simple as a hairbrush, deodorant, or personal hygiene products can make a world of difference. To address another constant need, I've also added snacks, because so many of our students are always hungry. To ensure these resources are always well-stocked and easy for students to access, I've personally added a few items for better organization.
Ultimately, this project is about more than just giving out items; it's about building a compassionate and trusting environment. By providing these small comforts, we can give students the confidence and peace of mind to get through their day, knowing we see them and care. These seemingly small acts of support allow them to move past their immediate needs and focus on their learning and overall well-being.
